Is the 2.5 turbodiesel (not the BMW one, the one from 96 onwards) a "usable" engine in the Omega? Will it perform decently, perhaps with some bolt-ons? I'm drawn to the Omega for my next car because of the RWD, comfy seats and HUGE cabin space but it is a little too unsporty to me, this will be my second car (i currently drive an A6). I have only driven the 2.0TD and it accelerated decently (to me), but it felt almost like i was driving a bus But i see there are tons of upgrades on here to make it more sporting, i just changed the suspension on my A6 and it feels like a sport car now, so i assume i can do the same to an eventual Omega.  

Anyway my question is if i could make the 96-onwards Omega 2.5 TD a convincing "youth ride" veichle with some mods. Petrol is not really an option, too expensive.  :-/

All the Omega 2.5TD are BMW powered. The 2.2DTi is a Vauxhall engine.

It is heavily detuned in the Omega.  Apparently, it is possible to get it to perform reasonably....

Omegatoy has done some mods to his, and apparently it goes quite well....

Thanks, i didn't know! I thought the 150HP was a Vauxhall, hehe. Is it possible to make it handle more "sporty" but without losing too much of the comfort? I see performance ECU chips claiming 180-190 HP and 50+ more nM of torque, don't know if it's reliable but it might be a pointer..

Are the BMW engines engineered well, too? Not much info on the diesels here, seems petrol is the more popular option  :-/

Personally, I am not a big fan of the BMW unit. Catastrophic failures are not uncommon (not just in Omegas, but also in BMW and Landrovers), and they have a ridiculous 4.5k service interval . Which means I would be changing the oil every 2k max!

But that is just my opinion...

Pappa speak to a user called Omegatoy here, he has a chipped 2.5 TD Omega estate which is very quick.... its also had a few other mods which make it quite quick!

Its very smooth for a diesel at at speed you can't tell its a DERV.... the turbo noise may annoy me after a while, but thats just a personal preference.

How's the possibilities for a stereo in these? The 2.0TD i drove had a bose system which was decent, but i need something with more punch. Are there cut-outs for speakers in the front doors, rear doors, rear deck etc. even on a non-Bose equipped omega?

Does anyone have a link describing all the trim levels, i.e. CD, GL etc? I def. want climate control and generally a high-equipped version but that should not be a problem, CD levels are common on 2.5TD's in my country..

The 2.0 Diesel in Omega's is very rare and underpowered, the Bose sound system was only ever fitted to Elite models.

Spec changed massively over the years so it depends what your budget it, and yes its S6 and very smooth for a diesel.

Go for a manual pre 98, as the early diesels had the weaker ar25 autobox fitted and could not handle the torque, after 98 it had the Ar35  and its a much stronger box

If you plan to chip, go for a manual.

This is Norway, and the Omega is called Opel.. different markets i guess..

CD is the highest trim level here, and 2.0 diesels are pretty common. They all came with Bose i think.
But, are there speaker holes in the non-Bose ones? Thanks.

Trim levels vary, and the model names vary. Eg Euro MV6 is the same as our Elite, which is different from our MV6...  ...confusing...

Yes, straight 6, and heavy.

Cutouts in front and rear doors, although replacement speakers have to be quite thin - depth is an issue.  Only Bose ones here have speaker grills on rear shelf.

Have changed the filters and fluid on the green one made a lot of difference to the quality of the change, thery are easy to work on for sure, engine blowups ocur when people dont service them properly, or when the garage dont know what they are doing!!

If you have a flashable auto, I would thoroughly recommend an autobox software upgrade

I know one of them is.... the other is a manual but with 2 auto box updates you could treat me and James to some beers down the pub
