V6 Idle Speed
« on: 30 March 2007, 17:21:23 »

Hi
Just wondering if other V6 owners experience this.
After cracking open sunroof in nice weather last week it reminded me of an issue that annoys me with tickover when Climate is turned off or Econamy button pressed. ie compressor not running.
The problem is that with Climate on tickover perfect about 550-600 RPM never varies whatever is turned on which with an Elite can be quite a lot.
If Climate is turned off tickover drops to about 450-500 RPM. The engine never stalls but just feels to slow, not a major problem as its always been the same but curious to find out if normal or unique to mine.
Thanks in advance for any feedback
Brian

I tend to leave the climate in ECO mode.  My idle speed seems to be rock steady at 500 rpm.  With climate on, the idle increases to around 600 - 650 RPM.

I am always amazed at the "slow" idle speed - my other vehicles are 4 pots but the idle at 850 - 900 with the A/C off!  One of the benefits of a multi cylinder engine I suppose.

Based on me experience, yours seems normal enough.

Normal. ECO on, V6 should be around 450rpm.  This raises 100 rpm when ECO off.

My understanding is that in ECO mode the aircon unit isnt used just outside air and the heater matrix

As usual I'm probably 75% right ;D

Turns off the a/c.

Mine does the same low idle on ECO.  Can be lumpy.  Cleaned ICV and TB, can't seem to do anything about it.  Makes me wonder though when everyone talks about how smooth their V6's are.  :-?

Yep, i'm about 450-500 with Aircon off.  :y

Does idle nice and smooth though, when you're in the car you can hardly tell it's running.

I tend to have my Aircon on though cos when it's not and it's at lower revs i sometimes get "roll-back" when on steep hills.

And that won't do.  ;)

Plus, the air just feels fresher with Aircon on. Even up here.  ::)

Hey Brian,

Where abouts in Bexley are you?

My brother in law stays in Bexley, just outside the village, across from where the hospital used to be. Built fancy houses there now.

Usually down there a few times through the year visiting.

No probs.  :y

The only thing that annoys me about going down there is that i'm never allowed to wash my car due to the hose pipe ban.  >:(

I don't ever have that problem up here.  ;)
