auto box upgrade
« on: 04 April 2007, 21:43:38 »

Just been reading about the upgrades and was wondering if it could be done to mine, where to get it done and how much it would cost?

What year is yours? Think it can only be done from mini-facelift onwards....

Yep 1998 cars onwards.... does your car have side air-bags in the seats and steering wheel controls? If so good to go...

If anyone near you has a tech2 then speak to them, otherwise looking at £50+ easy from a dealer.

Worth while upgrade though, the box is smooth anyway but the change is quite something. You can only see the needle moving in my dads facelift  :)

It`s a 98 R with steering mounted audio controls and air bag, but no side air bags.

Are you sure? The airbags are on on the side of the upright part of the seat.

I thought all mini facelifts had side airbags?

What is the last letter in you VIN - if its a W or later, it will have flashable ECU...

Dealers charge anything from £50 upwards....

Perhaps you need to volunteer to do an oil gearbox change on mine Tunnie  ;)....coz i can tell exactly when it changes and i dont have to look at the rev counter  :(

I was suprised today.....i had to lift off completely to get it change to 4th.....was doing 85mph in 3rd....nearly 5k revs and it wouldnt change until i lifted off the throttle completely then i applied the throttle again and all was happy.....even holding it 85 and no exceleration didnt make it change
