Ignition Barrel Broke - Project Elite
« on: 10 April 2007, 11:54:20 »

I can only occasionally turn the key.. looks like the barrel is shagged... I've seen this a few times now.

Mark - you once said, that if I can get the key to the no1 position, I can remove just the barrel without the housing?

I think I will JUST be able to turn the key one more time... how does it come out?

What will I need to get a new barrel from Vx, just the old one, the key, and the logsheet? (which I have)

Anyone know what they cost?

A minor setback.. but a pain in the arse, because I was going to get an MOT today!  :-/

Turn to position one....if you look at the the top section of the barrel housing below the steering column, you will see a hole, push a bit of wire into it (its not so easy to get something to solid into but, an allen key can work)

It will pop out....

You can very carefuly (there are small springs in there!) strip them down, clean them up and adjust them.....I did the one on the project LPG car last night....

Look at the face of the barrel, there are two notches in the outer rim, turn the key so it lines up with the wider notch then push some welding rod or allen key into the release hole, barrel should pop out.
