Noisy Auto Gearbox
« on: 10 April 2007, 14:24:56 »

Hello, can anyone help.

My auto gearbox seems excessively noisy when stationary. It's OK in park and neutral, but when put into drive it makes a kind of rumbling sound.

May be obvious, but do i need to top up the gearbox oil, and how do i do that?

Many thanks.

Hi suavegarve,

To fill the gearbox you need to remove a plug ( metal square thing like not unlike the engine sump plug) and with the engine running, plug removed fill with oil through the plug hole with oil until the oil just starts to seep out. Put plug back in gear box and job done.

The noise you are hearing could well be some thing internal broken. :o :o

i do not really think it would be lack of oil but i stand to be corrected. :)

Check this guide out, its recommended to check the oil level and clean the magnet + filter as these can be the cause of many an autobox problem..

Make sure you use ATF and NOT oil!
