Hi.

Need some info on the suspension level sensor which also defines the headlamp beam level. The front sensor is located on the nearside wishbone. It consists of a couple of hinged rods which connect to a cam on the sensor itself. As the suspension varies due to load it causes the cam to rotate. My question is this.. Is the cam suppose to be separate from the sensor body. The cam on my one seems to pop out of the sensor body every couple of days. It pops back in easily enough but its a nuisance having to keep putting it back together. Is there a way that these clip together permanently? Or is there a clip of some kind that's missing.

If its knackered, does anyone have a clue on cost of replacement? Also do the push rods come with sensor or are they separate.

Looks like it could be a barsteward to replace. All the screw are rusted solid.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am not sure I know the answer, I simply spray some WD40 on the moving parts of the mechanism every now and then, but this may help you identify if you are missing any clips or other bits:

Excelent pic mate . Where did you find that?

Anyway it's item 4 from your drawing thats giving me the problem. The cam (the bit with the hole drilled in it for the push rod to connect to) has become detached from the body of the sensor. It's difficult to describe but the whole rotor part has pulled out of the sensor and taken the inside of the sensor with it. I can't see any clips on you drawing which might be associated with it so I presume it must be terminal. Off to the stealers tomorrow then. :-/

I got a quote from Vx the other week for one to replace the rear sensor on my 99 prefacelift - Around £50. Mine both appear to be the same - just mounted on different brackets.

Just for the part. I already know which switch is goosed though via a proper Tech II (not a dealers)

Sorry to hi-jack this thread.  How do you know if the sensors arnt working?  Do you get the error message come up on the screen.

I sometimes notice my xenons moving but not all the time and sometimes get flashed at as if I have my lights on high beam, which incidentally I dont!

Have only seen the FLD error once and that was when I had removed one of the headlight units as it was damaged.

If there is a fault with the sensor you will get the fld / vision warnig on the display, however this warning can also mean a fault with the leveller motors or the control unit. You need Tech 2 to tell you for definate.

A common problem is the ball coming out of the joint and causing the error.

Normally if there is a problem the system automatically sets the headlight full down so as not to blind people.

I have an issue with my own at the moment I am getting the field vision warning, I have changed the leveller motors, now looks like i need to change the sensor

What about the connector and wiring that connect to the sensor, is that something that can be replaced?  Mine's electrician taped up atm, although I may get the soldering iron out soon...  Not sure what colours go into which holes on the connector though as that's where they've pulled out  :-/

You're right. I checked with the local stealers. £51 +vat.

To hell with that. I'll strip it down and see if it can be repaired.
