Metal covers
« on: 12 April 2007, 11:04:43 »

Saw some metal cam covers from veccy somewhere on this forum & wondered if anyone has fitted them to an Omega, if so any advantage over plastic ones & is it easily done or is some form of surgery needed.

Any reason why you chose to replace the plastic ones for metal ?

I think the interest in Vectra Cam Covers is that maybe they will provide a tighter gasket seal than the plastic ones. More resistance to leaking. I'd paint them red for a Testarossa look.

I prefer the look of them, and they instill some kind of (possibly un-warranted) confidence in me, time will tell..

AFAIK the filler neck is not in the same place... you'll find it difficult to add oil when the filler neck is under the passenger-side scuttle board...

Not if you use a funnel.

The covers, they look really good!  Very racing car indeed!  And practical too....

Hi
Are the metal covers from a vectra 2.5,2.6 or 3.2 or are they all metal?
I have just (last week) changed my rocker gaskets, BUT forgot to use the jointing compound on the edges :-[, the result is a very bad oil leak!
any idea of cost for the metal covers?

Yikes!  Reminds me of someone I know quite well - but they put it in the wrong place  ::)

You need to have a pre-facelift omega I think (although I could be wrong) and the covers I've got have come of a P-reg Vectra with the X25XE engine.. (2.5 V6)

Many years ago I was servicing my Mk I Astra at a friend's garage, the car was on the lift, I drained the oil, changed the filter and tightened back the sump plug. I then had a chat with my friend, got back to the car and lowered it to the ground, went into the driver's seat and started engine in order to drive it off the lift. The engine ran fine, but it took a few second before it struck me... I forgot to fill it with oil! Needless to say I switched it off immediately, put dome oil in it, and then checked for damage... the car seemed fine and I had it for another couple of years, no problems...

I got mine off ebay and they wew £30 for the pair delivered which seemed reasonable, they came off a r reg Vectra V6 but i think any vectra v6 engine should have them.
