High Pitch noise form start up
« on: 20 April 2007, 15:14:56 »

Omega 2.5 V6 (R)

High pitch noise from cold start for about two min (sounds like a Harrier about to take off).

If started with warm engine noise time is reduced.

Noise level got gradually worse over a few months until stayed at this level.

Been advised that its for a fan recirculating exhaust gases form cold. Any advise on fixing in situ.

Sounds like secondary air injection pump to me... someone else will confirm, if it is the fix is usally just to unplug it - seems to be quite a redundant system..

If the sound is coming from under the passenger side front behind the horns then I would go with the secondary air pump making the noise others just disconnect and be done with it.

I had the same thing and I found the filter assembly which was connected had become brittle and it just fell to bits i'm thinking this is what was causing the noise never investigated any further though unfortunately.

Hope this helps
