Removing The Cat??????
« on: 24 April 2007, 12:49:40 »

Hi all, I have been reeding through many of the posts on this site. I have heard many people talking about removing the cat to increase BHP. Is this possible??? What is put in its place??? What about emissions??? What results can you expect to see???? Thank you in advance to all that reply!!!

hi mate , i asked this question on many forums and had mixed answers.... some said you lose power some said you gain power.......??????? :-?

so i thought nuts and did it........

i cut mine out and welded in some pipe..... makes it much more noisy..... even on standard system... . mine with no back box and no cats just the 2 centre box's and that made a 102db @ 4000rpm and 105db at 5000rpm.... i know this as my omega is a track car and limits are 102db....

but i did gain about 4-5 bhp from it ..

for a road car emmisions are totally out the window... so would need ideally either another set of cats like i have to bolt in bolt out at MOT time... or flange them so can easily be taken off and on, but this can be expensive.

Nice one Palmer!! As mine is a road car, I think I will leave the cats where they are.

All the best ;)

Unless you LPG your car, then you don't need the cats at all!!  not even for an MOT.  This way you get a faster petrol car or a slower (much cheaper) car at the touch of a button.

I can't agree

Without Cats on the car, you'd never pass an MOT on petrol

If you have LPG installed on the car, you can choose to take the MOT on LPG or petrol.

I was under the impression that the emissions on LPG are much lower than on petrol.

I agree. Not a hope of passing without a cat.

unless you stick em back on before the MOT (but you may have to hug a few trees whilst they are off to show you care  :D)  or you know the testing guy and promise him you'll stick em back on...

its a toss between the performance gain v amount of wrk required taking cats on and off v the poor climate

this illegal advise was brought to you by...... :-X
