As title.

Anyone got access to a dented car to try this??

Don't see a technical reason why it wouldn't work, but doubt if you could get a lump of dry ice at the local Sainsburys like it says on the vid......

As luck would have it, we use dry ice at work. I have a couple of annoying supermarket carpark dents which have been bugging me for a while.

I will give this a try tomorrow and report back to you all.

I note from the vid that it works best on a hot car, presuming its the relative contraction of the metals over a small/large area that makes it work.

As with all such processes, as advised in the small print on labels, might be better to try a less obvious place first, rather then the centre of the bonnet!!

Interesting, I posted one some time ago that had similar results with a hairdryer & a can of solvent, never did get round to trying it.......

Well, as the temperature never drops below 70^of  in the tropics of Cornwall, I don't have worry about that.

get a kettle of boiling water poured on the ding and ordinary ice from your freezer for a minute, see it that makes much difference!

i have a feeling even the dry ice method wont produce a perfect result, but if GolfBuddy confirms success, worth trying i suppose

My neighbour's car had a nice smooth dent in the front wing caused by a child's head who just ran into the car and then ran off - wierdest hit and run I've ever hear of....anyway it cost me £3.50 for a tin of compressed air on Ebay - warmed it up with a hairdryer first and did it work....NO!  

Call Dentmaster instead - very quick, professional and a flawless fix.

I used to work in the auto refinishing trade many moons ago and can see the theory of this technique, it would probably work quite well on uniform "soft" dents that were not to old but, not on deep dents or ones on creased panel areas. The quicker the dent can be dealt with the better, as metal develops a "memory" quite often we used to get cars in the workshop with some really bad dents in them, if they were "soft" we could usually press them out and achieve perfect results, but if they were old dents when you popped them out the dent would just return.

Can see the science behind this but it will only work on uniform dents, not crease's or "stretched" metal.

SWMBO is a scientist at the local uni and tells me that the opposite rule applys to wood. In effect if you have a dented piece of wood you can remove the dent by applying a steam iron to the dent (use a cloth to avoid scorching). The moisture and heat causes the would to swell and the dent comes out. Ok, but risky if the wood is painted or varnished obviously.

So she is going to try the dry ice trick out at work tomorrow and see if it works. Wish Id known this last week before I paid the £500 to have the Omega bumper shaped dent taken out of her MG. Wonder how that got there...

Just use a bigger block of ice and some elbow grease. That just shows a lack of effort.

you cant have tried hard enough, i've done better on worse dents with just a warm damp cloth!
