do you have an instrument dimer on the headlight switch ?
check that. my old sennys one used to kill lights if set to high. or you may have brushed it and set it to low.
or your bulbs are blown.

after that pass :)

Which panel.....climate panel or MID/TID display in the instrument cluster......either way its likely to be little more than a blown bulb which are easy to replace....

I think I have a similar problem.  On the AC control panel the displays for L and R temp and the one that says A for Auto seem to have lost their illumination.  You can still see the output if you look hard, its just not lit up.

Are you saying this is a bulb change Mark?  If so, how do you access them?

Cheers,

Ian

Easy enough to change.....

You need to

1) Remove the radio (make sure you have the code).
2) Open the ashtray and unclip and remove the ash catcher insert.
3) now look at the back of the open ashtray and you will see a single philips screw, remove this and the complete ashtray assebly can be removed.
4) This will reveal two further screws which should be removed
5) Next is the bit that often confuses people.....if you look into the space where the radio goes about 1-2 inches in along the top side of the radio hole is a metal bar.....pull this down at both ends (its fiddly and you might want to gently lever it with a screw driver)...this will release the top section of the centre panel.....
6) Ease the panel forwarsd and reach in to release the two climate panel connectors.
7) I then use a torx screwdriver to remove the 5 panel retaining screws and replace the bulbs in the comfort of the kitchen....

Re-fit is reverse of removal...

Presumably they will have them in Vx Parts - I'm off there this morning - or will they be rip-u-offo prices?

Vx dealer will probably try to charge you circa £2/bulb if you dont have a TC card......I remember my vx dealer wanting £2 for the bulb that lights up the fuel guage before i had a TC card.....oh and another £45 for them to fit it  :o

Needles to say i went to Halfords......bought all of them for about £2 and fitted them myself  :y

All LCD's require lights or reflectors as its a passive technology and not emmissive...

We can all learn new things.  Trouble is, as you get older, you have to forget other stuff to learn new.... ::)

LCD just polarisies, hence blocks light, rather than being a light source (such as crt or led). Therefore it needs an additional light source, such as backlighting/sidelighting in the case of colour lcd screens, or using ambient light and reflectors in case of calculators, digital watches, and older mobile phones (older mobile phones often fitted with illumination so could be used in low light)
