CCR2006 in SAFE mode - code problems
« on: 29 April 2007, 21:17:08 »

Bit of an odd one...  ran my battery flat today listening to the radio  ::) and then when I started it dipped the voltage too low and SAFE appeared on the display.  OK I thought, went off to get the paperwork for the car and got the code.

Switched ignition on (actually the engine was running at that point) pressed AS as I switched the radio on and got 10 CODE up, so I thought that was good news - a nice full set of 10 attempts!  Put the code in and got it displayed properly on the MID and then pressed AS to confirm (engine still running).

Instead of getting some sounds, I got 9 CODE.  Oooerr.   New car to me (facelift 99 model) and not had to do this before.  Havent got a carpass, but looks like I need to get one to verify the code...

Did I do anything wrong re the code entry?  Dont want to waste another go...

Sounds like you did everything right. Are you sure you have the correct radio code?

when you say "paperwork" what do you mean

ie a scribbled note from the previous owner....

or documented code from vx...
maybe the wrong code? it does sound like you have done everything correct - do you have your "car pass" ?

Yeah - am wondering if the supplying dealer wrote the wrong code down when it was sold to the previous owner.  Long time ago now so doubt they will be of any use.  I think the thing to do is to get a new carpass and then see if that number is different...

Was hand written by the supplying dealer on the car details page of the bill of sale to the previous owner - about 2 years ago.  Could well be wrong but Im not going to guess that a 1 is a 7 etc or I will be in the 640minute wait time and 1 attempt left before I know it!

The car didnt come with a car pass (previous owner lost it... Tsk) so looks like thats the way to go.  Soon as the V5 comes back I will trot off to Vx.  Probably need it for other things anyway at some point I guess.

Cheers

If you have any problems or it cost a packet to get the code

I have a CCR2006 sat in the basement in need of a little bit of TLC the 3 plastic twiddle knobs are missing and the Volume knob is iffy, but i have the code for it and its an easy swap of the volume control. i have been waiting to see if there was one kicking about that needed Spares or repairs but i have never seen one.

Give me a shout if you get stuck

Cheers - could be very handy if I discover that the carpass code doesnt work either - might mean someone else replaced the radio at some point.  At that point I'd be out of ideas...

Just ordered a carpass from vx.  Very helpful they were too - I mentioned the code not being accepted and pointed out the fact this was on the (non vx) dealer paperwork.  They asked for the radio serial number too in addition to the VIN so that if the radio had been changed they could give me the correct code.

Apparently they can fax me the details whilst the card comes through which was a helpful touch.   Just waiting to hear back now...

If the radio was changed by a vx dealer......you will get a new car pass....with the new radio code on it....so this will be logged by vx....so if the orig car pass was lost then you should still get the correct code.....but as you say it doesnt help if someone else changed it  :(

When you get the car pass and it still doesnt work...my suggestion would be to try car audio shops....most have the capability of reseting the code.

I know one second hand car dealer in Swindon does this on every car stereo if it has a code.....he removes all the radios....so they dont get nicked from the cars during the night....200+cars! And sends em to a local car radio shop to reprogrammed with a new code  :y

Heh!  Well I may well be heading that way if the carpass code doesnt work!

A conclusion to the story...

Taxidriver, you were not far wrong when you said 'when'...

Vx folks advised me that the code I had written down was correct.  I didnt believe I'd entered it wrong so I asked them to check before I wasted another attempt on the '10 lives' bit.  I ended up going into the Vx dealer again to explain and they phoned up their security code people.

Result!  Even though I'd given them the radio chassis number, they hadnt bothered to cross check that and as a result had given me the correct but original radio code.  No longer applicable with the new radio in.  The radio chassis number when checked properly produced a new code.  Problem solved!  So I tapped that in and...

8 SAFE.

Bu&&er.  Back into the Vx dealer and asked them for any suggestions.  Helpful guy said he would check the serials and radio codes for the 3rd time.  Came out looking annoyed - somewhere in the discussion the wrong radio chassis serial was entered.  Yet another code was produced.  So I tapped that one in with the guy sat next to me and...

it worked.

So... if this is your situation and you are reading this thread with a similar problem my suggestion would be to double check you wrote the serials down right.  Also double check that the dealer writes it down OK on the form too - better done in person rather than over the phone methinks.  But I had done this all OK and it still went wrong - perhaps its worth getting the dealer to do that double check at their end too - before you tap the codes in and lose too many 'lives'....   Or maybe I was just unlucky.

Ah well, at least my music is back.   :)
