One way secondary injection valve - fubar!
« on: 03 May 2007, 16:16:27 »

It would seem my secondary injection valve is up the creek.

Is there any way of repairing it or will I have to get a new one or will a sprappies suffice?

Insert AA batteries into the rubber couplings by the cam cover, remove the metal pipe work and unplug the airpump....then pretend it was never there....

To cause the cats to get up to temp quicker, so emissions control can go closed loop quicker...

The AA batteries will eventually corrode and leak so use a piece ot 1/2" metal rod or short piece of 15mm copper pipe with stop end soldered on.

You can remove the metal pipe completely once the rubber couplers are stopped-up, its amazing how much space this creates.

The air injection system was fitted in anticipation of tighter emissions requirements where new cars would have their TOTAL emissions measured from start-up and over a simulated drive, the air injection system stopped unburnt fuel leaving the exhaust and got the catalysts working quicker. I believe a major manufacturer had problems meeting the proposed limits and blocked the introduction.
