Cause I'm thinking about getting another engine to be reconditioned does this mean I can get a X20XEV from a cavalier and it'll fit.

in my opinion i think your best option is to source a lump from an omega as the cav is transverse and would require all mounts and pulley mounts to be changed also the original block would require extensive thread cleaning where the mounts would go, the sump may not match and .... i dont think it would be worth your while ,
sorry, just my opinion ,others may know different

cheers

Yeh, sump and flywheel are different as are aux mounts and timing cover etc...

I would try to source a post 98 2.0 from an Omega....these have some extra refinements including balancer shafts which are not on the earlier units.

..if the 8-valvers are the same as found on the Astra OHC engines, then this is a somewhat un-sophisticated but extremely reliable power unit.... and dead easy to work on or rebuild.  :y
