Hi

Trying to remove pipes that come from the filter to the oil cooler... have one of the undone but the othe is not budging dispite spraying it with WD40 etc anyone done these that can offer any further advice?

You need a good penetrating spray....which WD40 is not...some plusgas or rustflash is ideal.

Its also sometimes helps to disconnect the oil ooler pipes at the oil cooler end and wiggle them to help loosen the bottom connections off....

Could only get loctite freezed and release any good or do I need to get something better??

The tube nuts rust onto the pipe so use RustFlash or Plusgas and direct it between pipe and nut.
Do you have hexagonal flare spanners or crowsfoot flare spanners? If you use an ordinary open-ended spanner it will crush the nut and then you are in trouble.

I do have a crossfoot spanner unsure what you mean by flared!!

Soundslike the same stuff, a penetrating fluid / freezer mix.

Flare spanners are like a hexagonal ring with a slot in it so you can slip it over the pipe and onto the nut.

Tried all the above suggestions still not getting anywhere with it and nut is starting to round off any suggestions???

my only concern with freeze and release...Mark /Pete you can confirm or dismiss is that it freezes to -43 or something crazy.....getting it on the pipes may not be a good idea and its not unknown - good as the stuff is - to actualy snap things off.

Good old plus gas for me on that one

As already stated I am using a 19mm crowsfoot got one off with minimal hasle but the 2nd is being a bastard.  What are the implications of damaging the nut?

Oh dear. I did that once, swore I'd never do it again.  Ended up costing me a leadlamp, as I smashed it over Tunnie's head

Seriously, it will be 'challendging' getting them back on, and another pair of hands may be useful....

Mark DTM gives so much invaluable information on here. And the best piece of advice he gave me was...

Dont bend the pipes  

Bending them out is the easy part but bending them back in Andy is gonna be hard   Good luck least the cooler is out....was it seeping in chocolate?

Very much so!!!!

The pipes can not be as hard as that oppsin nut was there is two of us to get it back on later so will up date you.

If I had not bent the pipes it would have been a rounded of nut and then a whole world of shit so lesser of two evils me thinks!!!! but time will tell.
