Throttle body clean-up
« on: 19 May 2007, 19:43:20 »

Well, I took the throttle body off today and gave it a thorough clean and all went smoothly , until roadtest; although the car was running absolutely fine , the engine management light came on followed by the diagnostic light(car with spanner thru' it) and so thought S**T what the hell now, thinking to myself that I'd double checked everything, so as I was close to local Vx garage , I popped in and they put the old Tech2 on it;  Mass Air Flow Meter Failure comes up! Let's lift the bonnet up the guy says and there it is !! I'd forgotten to connect the damn connector back to the Meter (teach me to tuck it out of the way) well how much of a Plonker did I feel then!! anyway all ok now!!
Just thought it might be amusing to put on the forum.
Cheers Pete ;D

LOL I had that before with the TPS, was fiddling about and forgot to reconnect it. Check engine light stayed on after starting, I immediately switched off, had a look under the bonnet and noticed it :-[. Once reconnected the CEL went off as normal.

don't feel bad mate, its not as if you sheared off a bolt that holds the cam cover on  :-[

Should make a difference a clean throttle body, mine picked up quicker and was smoother at 4k rpm +

Very interesting.  When I had my MAF fault last year the emissions light was on (lightening rather than spanner light) and it stayed on whether the connector was on or not, and it made no difference to the running of the car.  I think that's when I decided it was actually knack'd :-/

'Marks DTM Calib assumes smug mode'

My main rule before completing a job is to check around all connectors and bolts to make sure its job finished before even thinking about starting it up......and hence why the LPG project car fire straight up with no fault lights.... :y

If you forget to reconnect the TPS after you've done a cam belt you'll get gearbox fault when you reverse the car off the drive, if you have an auto ..... apparently! ::)  ::)
And that's what the Tech II said when I drove  ;) the car was driven to a friendly Vx dealer

Smug on - no problems after refitting the plenum after drilling for the injectors, and it worked first test - smug off

11 months later attempted the thermostat

prat on - still runs even of throttle body not plugged in properly - prat off

Was this the one with the stallig problems?

If so, did you do the breathers also?

If not, do them now, else half a job isn't worth doing :y
