Noise
« on: 22 May 2007, 16:31:40 »

noticed on the miggy last night a strange noise coming from the front, it sounds like a thrust bearing, the noise goes when you dip the clutch or increase speed, it just seems to be when going down hill no revs, as i say it sounds like a thrust bearing on the clutch.
Could it be that or do you guys have any other idears, I have been driving around on and off throughout the day trying to sus it out, the clutch is fine, biting about half way.
By the way it does it when the car is warm, not on first moving off.
Any help gents would be greatfully received.

Forgive me if this turns out to be utter nonsense, but...

Does your engine have a secondary air injection system? Do these run during over-run conditions as well as during warm-up? Could one of your air-pipes above the exhaust manifold (that's where they are on mine, and as you've guessed, I found a leaky pipe) have developed a leak, which is more 'open' when the pipes are warm?

Might just about be this, maybe (sound of air 'farting' out of the pipe's hole)? Not sure what a thrust bearing problem sounds like, mind...

Easy to check out anyway.

would have to agree with you there. what you say sounds like a thrust bearing :-/
not the worst job to do thanks to the engine/box being transverse, unbolt prop, gearbox bell housing bolts, cables here and there and gear linkage. best of luck !
