Shell V Power - 99ron - Not an illusion !
« on: 19 September 2007, 20:48:01 »

After taking out a mortgage, I filled up my tank from empty, to the top, with shell V power 99ron. Ok, so it's £1.05 a litre here, but I thought I'd try it anyway.

I did a total of 102.4 miles - 60 of which were motorway driving (70/80mph) - and 42.4 miles driving semi locally, not being too careful with right foot.

I just filled back up to the top with V power, and the total cost was £13.51.

That's 102.4 miles out of £13.51 (at £1.05 a litre)

Am I right in thinking this is pretty darn good, for a 2.5 V6 manual?

I never recall the V6 being quite thie economical, maybe V power really does go further?  :-?

Thrashing the nuts off the 2.6 £10 gets me 100 miles.

Taking it easier £7 for 100 miles

It advances the timing IIRC... hence the better MPG  :y

Work it out though, do you actually save anything paying for the higher octance stuff?  :-/

You're being ripped off! Here in Mill Hill (NW7), I can get Shell 97 RON for 92.9p and Super Unleaded Esso for 98.9p. Check out your cheapest stations at http://www.petrolprices.com. A really useful site!  :y

I used to live in Mill Hill....  :y

Also in St Albans they have a Shell petrol station with super-cheap fuel, but around central London it's a total rip-off... they have a captive audience because there is no point in driving too far to fill up obviously.  >:(

Well, I live near Heathrow and, where ever possible, I go to Watford to fill up.  Fuel is generally 4 - 5 pence cheaper per litre.  That is around £3 saving.  However, you have to factor in the time (around an hour) and the 40 mile round trip which I am sure negates any saving made. However, I feel good as I have paid less, and less of my money is going to the government!

I have never tried these super fuels TBH.  As I drive like a granddad I don't think I would benefit.  I do not, though, use supermarket fuel EVER.  But that is a topic for a separate debate.

I have been using V-power for the past 6 months and have found the mpg better. The best that i have had around Cov the price i pay is 98p. The best i have had is £20 getting me 160M which i think is not bad but then again i drive like a grandad most of the time to.

I would guess that Shell have realised that the extra cost is stopping people from even trying V-Power given that the local Shell station had a 12 hour promotion on the other week selling V-Power for the same price as regular. The uptake was seemingly huge!

Nah, the lawnmower is fast enough as it is.

What I have noticed is that Asda and Shell are selling their diesel at the same price but the Diesel Extra from Shell is worth the detour home to get it.

I used to work at the army barracks in Mill Hill. About ten minutes walk from Dollis Road where I lived.
