Hi all,
I have got one of the hit and miss, hungarian software, through the laptop com port code readers and like every one else can get it to read codes now and again when the software feels like it....but it wont read my g.box ecu.

My mate at work bought one of these

to read codes on his Mitsubishi..guess what it doesn't,    but it does work on my Omega and reads and resets both engine and gearbox ecu's.....no laptops, no mucking around just plug in and read the codes.  Wish I'd bought one of these they are in my opinion the one to go for if you want a cheap code reader / resetter

Are there any other Omega's you can try it on just to confirm. Mine is a '97 MV6 and this looks like a useful tool to have.

Interested in further info..

If this can read and reset codes on the range of Meega's, it could be useful to my budding little business for that price!

Doubtful, but can it talk to any other systems, other than engine ECU?

I seem to remember borrowing an extremely similar unit from a work colleague. It read main ECU codes on a 3.0 - I think it did allow you to clear them as well - but I don't think it woudl talk to any other ECUs ... plus it failed to establish communication with a 3.2 ...  :'(

It was this code reader that I used to read my gearbox ecu fault codes from this thread

My cheapo through the laptop cable will find engine ECU codes but would not read the gearbox codes as this Geniscan did, and it allowed me to clear them as well.  As for other reading other vehicles, it communicated with his Toyota Yaris but failed to link with his Mitsubishi.  I dont have access to another Omega but will see if it will link to the wifes Zafira when I can.

He bought it off Ebay from Japan and it was delivered within a week

Remember the non dbw engines in Omegas are not OBDII compliant.

Still the only one to fully cover all aspects of 1997 on Omegas (and all Vauxhalls) is the real genuine Tech2. Strangely enough, I know of one for sale ::)

The Opelscan (around £300 - £500) shows promise, but unlikely will ever do everything that Tech2 can.

Would a '97 MV6 engine be ODB II compliant. I have only had it a short while and am still learning all the in's and out's of this engine.

No, only the 2.2,2.6 and 3.2 are OBDII compliant (ignore the sites selling OBDII scanners saying all cars from 97 on are OBDII, this is in US only, and UK companies have copied the marketing blurb)

hmmm ... the funny thing is that the one I borrowed was a geniscan, it talked to the 3.0 but not a 3.2 ... actually, come to think of it, I think it was the same Geniscan GS300 in the first post :-?
