Dis Pack or Not
« on: 16 June 2007, 11:50:06 »

Just took the dis pack off the project car as the previous owner had said it had failed due to him taking it to his local vauxhall stealers and them saying so.....hmmmm. This is what i have found, looks pretty good to me, any thoughts?

I think its running on five which is unusual as they usually fail in pairs, well mine certainly did last year. When i took mine off it was absolutely fooked , cracked , rusty, split, a hell of a lot worse than this one, rocker gasket is leaking though..... I wonder  ::)

This was the one from mine earlier this year, definately knacked, bit of a difference :o

I guess it could break internally, should be able to see that with a meter though...

You can check the resistance of the 3 coils - should be something like 11 kOhms to 14k Ohms each.

Trouble is if the iron core has delaminated the inductance will change resulting in a weaker spark. Hard to measure.

If the coil insulation has broken down you'll get some leakage again resulting in a weaker spark. Again hard to measure.

Well I have to say the DIS pack looks shot to me...

Too much water infiltration, especially on the right side (rust).
