Fan still on...
« on: 25 June 2007, 20:04:14 »

went out for a drive, was only out for about 15 minutes, when i returned home and turned off the ignition i could hear a fan blowing, from behind the passenger dash region, it almost sounds as if its the heated screen fan, i put the key in and switched the blowers on, had a mess about, put the temp on high on both sides, then turned them down to about 22c, then put the windscreen blower on, then off a minute later, then turned the air con off completely and took the key out, but could still hear this fan blowing quietly, only on the passenger side, so i opened the bonnet and had a listen, could hear it still but not as loud as in the car, just gone back out a few minutes ago (after leaving it for 15 mins) and sat in the passenger seat, could still hear the fan very quietly, it then stopped and came back on a second later, still really quiet, thats how i've left it for now

is this the norm? never noticed it before, i just dont want it flattening my battery over night. any pointers??

Is/has your scuttle drain been blocked. If so, you will find this an expensive lesson to keep it clear in future.....   .....I reckon the speed controller has got wet.  Expect to pay over £100 for a new one from Vauxhall...

the fans seem to work fine, at whatever speed, they increase and decrease as they should, it's just the tiniest faintest noise, but its there

scuttle drain looks to be clear, but like the entire country, had a lot of rain the last week or so, the £100 possible repair cost doesnt bother me, its the flat battery in the morning that would

however, i could always borrow my mum's fiesta as a last resort, she doesnt use it during the day!

Are you sure it’s the heater blower fan? Sure its not one of the Auxiliary fans running on slow speed in front of the a/c condenser or isn’t there a small fan that cools the relay box that could also be running?

not 100% sure, just from where the sound is coming from, had no chance to have a look at it yet. seemed like heated screen fan area but only at the end (under the tax disc), it hasnt done it since, the heating in the car has worked perfectly normal

i hope this is completely unrelated and not an actual problem, but can the sudden change in the weather allow my engine temp to be running on average at aroub 84c? i went for a drive and got stuck in traffic deliberately to see if it made a difference, which it did, it went up to about 92-93, then when i was out of the traffic it settled at 84 again

I'm probably stabbing in the dark, BUT, there is a small fan in the sampler on the climate control, sited directly in the centre of the dash above the 4 dials...  hang some very thin tissue infront of it and see if it oscillates in the breeze....  Other than that, Sorry, can't help,,,,

Edited post the wong side  :-[

This is the correct side:

I got this off TIS
"Servo Motor – Left Mixed Air Valve, Remove and Install

  Remove
Remove left footwell cover. For RHD: Remove glove compartment – see operation "Glove Compartment, Remove and Install" in group "C", remove left footwell air duct.

Remove cover cap (1), disengage wiring harness plug (4) and detach, unbolt servo motor (5). LHD: detach actuation rod (3).

Separate actuation lever (2) of servo motor from joint.

  Install
Actuator lever on servo motor (2), actuating rod (3), servo motor (5), wiring harness plug (4), cover cap, air duct, glove compartment, footwell panelling.

Then synchronise servo motors: ignition ON, actuate AUTO and OFF keys simultaneously for longer than 5 seconds"

Not sure if yours has climate or air con. Can email you a diagram if you think it's worth it.
