Removing carpets
« on: 28 June 2007, 22:46:07 »

As some poeple will know from my previous post my omega was caught in a flood on monday and as a result the engine and the interior of the car recieved a very very extreme soaking.

Managed to get the engine going again and it all seems to be running ok.  However, I now need to concentrate on the inside.  I've already removed a lot of water and spent a good 90 minutes with a Vax sucking out even more but there is still a lot left soaked into the lining under the carpet and it's now starting to stink.

I'll never be able to get it all out properly whilst the carpets are still in the car so i'[m wanting to know how easy are the carpets to remove?

I'm presuming at the very least the front seats will need to come out and probably all the plastics around the handbrake.  Other than those are there any other little hidden clips or screws i need to look out for?

Don't you just love these great british summers :(  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

You would need to remove:

Front seats and side trims (easy)
Rear seat base (easier)
Centre console (not to hard)
Side palstic trims (some torx screws)
front kick panels (a screw and clip)

Then they shoudl come out....

I would recommend spraying them with traffic film remover, attacking them with a pressure washer and then vaxing them before final drying.

It's not the carpets that take the effort to dry, it's all that sponge sound deadning stuff underneath that's the pain. I had to cut away all of mine on the passenger side front and rear foot wells (not so bad in the rear foot well) because of water getting in from the under the dash bulkhead. The sponge really soaks up the water, cut it out if you can't get it all out in one piece. Be carefull when cutting, then you will be able to piece it back in ok.
Takes about a week to dry properly, better if outside but what chance of that recently.
