Just done compression test on No 2, 4 & 6 cylinders as Mark suggested, 235, 245 & 265 psi respectively, all seems ok there then :-/ Better do 1, 3 & 5 while i'm here then i thought

This is what i found :o Think i may have just found the problem  ::)


No 1 Plug





No 3 Plug





No 5 Plug





O/S scuttle drain is also blocked, water running over onto  broken o/s cam cover and straight through the hole. The top of the head and plug wells are swimming in water :o :o

Water cooled plugs and I think that big hole in the cam cover is a mod to stop blocked breathers from blowing the cam cover gaskets. At least you know someone has put a lot of thought into it ::) ;D

If it only it would help but, its no where near the oiled section...

Worth doing a compression test any way as it gives some info on the state of the engine.

So.....any good at syphoning....

Still going to compression test 1, 3 and 5 once its drained, just been and got cam cover off the red one i scrapped and picked up gaskets from stealers ;)

Something else i found ::)

Ok so we've got a water jacket around half the spark plugs, a vacuum hose completely blocked (where does it go to, by the way?) and probably an air leak into no. 6.

But has anyone guessed why it was running like a dog yet?

Makes me wonder if that was done by a mechanic trying his best to sort the problem, or one who slapped it back together to get rid after his diagnosis of "head gasket, mate" wasn't accepted.
