General Advice needed
« on: 01 July 2007, 12:18:16 »

Hi Guys
I have bought an Omega 2.5 GLS  V reg, to replace the Omega that blew up on the M20.
Can you guys help on these queries I have with the new car.
Is Traffic master any good and is it worth paying for a new licience for it?
The car runs well but if you try to accelerate quickly the engine makes a loud exhaust noise and does not accelerate much. But if you  kick down, the car takes off like a bullet right up to the rev limiter. I mean rapid!!! A lot faster than any of my previous V6 Omega's. Never known an auto box go to the rev limiter tho'! Do you guys know if this is normal? Just need a bit of re-assurance :y

Sounds fairly normal.

The loud exhaust is probably 'cos it's been a replacement non-OEM rear box (at least).

The acceleration - if gentle in normal 'economy' mode  - it'll just carry on in 3rd/4th, but if as you say you kick down - it will drop to 2nd...and sometimes 1st.
'S' Sports mode will set the kick down a bit more aggresive & get it revving up to the limiter if you keep your foot planted. 120 ish is not uncommon in 3rd ;)

As for being quicker - I think the GLS weighs a wee bit less than some of the others, and that loud exhaust will be adding to the 'sensation'!

Traffic Master - disconnected mine, but a new subscription isn't all that expensive. Suppose it's a good idea if you do a lot of deadline motorway/main route miles.

Well, that's my take on it!

Kickdown should take it to redline on later ECU/Software, notable exception being tractors.

I have TM in tractor, but not licenced. Not sure I will, even with my longer journeys.  If I do, its because I like 'all things working' I suspect.  I tend to keep traffic info on on radio, and use trafficline etc...

Cheers
I had an estate omega prior to this car which seemed a bit more torque than this one. Although not as quick when kicked down. The estate had a non vauxhall exhaust aswell and it sounded just the same as this one.
I havn't tried sports mode on the new car as I'm a bit concerned about the rev limiter coming in when in economy mode.
I do alot of motorway work so I might try the traffic master.
Thanks for the advice :y

Just thought it might be like a sat nav. The cigar lighters on the last car went off so it was a waste of time buying sat nav ::)

Traffic Master only tells you of congestion, doesn't tell you how to avoid etc (or any other directions)

I used to have it in my previous Omega, depends were you live, If you travel on motorways/A roads that get congested a lot (i.e. M25)  then it can be quite handy, I did find mine would sometimes be totally inaccurate which can be infuriating at times.

I had it in a V6 Vectra i had once.....from what i can remember if on a long run....it seemed to know roughly which direction you were heading in and if motorways were severly conjested it used to advise coming of at a certain junction and advising of another route.

I did like that Vectra  :) 2.5 CDX leather, all the toys  :) ....it could nearly keep up with a Imprezzo Turbo.....but then it did have a slush box in it.
