Just bought another one

Camcorder, that is!

Seems like a bargain to me, with the extra battery, 2 extra lenses, filters etc. 3ccd, HDD recording. Very good reviews too:

No bob. Sold my vx9000 and have been looking for a good 3ccd hd one. The Evirio comes out very well. This one is used, but has £200 + worth of extras and is £200 below new one.

Keep your receipt handy. If Sony made the CCD's, they used to go bad after a couple of years. Witness the number of JVC camcorders and Minolta Cameras (and others) who's sensors went bad after a couple of seasons in nice warm, hot climates ( like on holiday!). Hopefully they have improved the manufacturing process since then but........

Well, Sony made the ccds in my vx9000 and that lasted over 10 years, including lots of filming in Africa!

My Minolta SLR has been good for over 5 years now too.

Yes, I've had a Minolta XG-M SLR for many years, it took some cracking pictures. I remember sailing on the Clyde, and dolphins started jumping around us, and I couldn't get the telephoto lens on in time !. Sony went through a patch where the sensors they made didn't last long. It affected the 5Meg sensors used in Minolta 7i, 7Hi, A1 cameras, the sensors in JVC camcorders, and a few other manufacturers as well. When Minolta stopped doing cameras, Sony took over repair, and are still replacing the sensors free of charge.

My wife had this with her stills camera - Sony replaced FOC

My video camera is of same period but is fine, but if it goes wrong is still covered

Hmm compression seems a bit extreme - I would have expected 2 hours of HD not 7

Mpeg2. I have seen the quality on these and it is simply astounding for mpeg. I still prefer Hi8, but I am going to seem 1000 years olkd now. On the otherhand, 70mm film would be nice. ;)

Hi8 is quite new fangled. I started with Beta seperates :o

I do have a soft spot for MiniDV and its HD version - that is about 15GB per tape
