Rear suspension noise
« on: 09 July 2007, 20:56:12 »

Hi,
I have a really anoying noise coming form the back of the car (the noise is stronger in the right side). It is like a fast "tack, tack, tack, etc...". The shocks are Bilstein (OE quality) new. I used to have a similar noise in the front. That were the links to the anti-roll bar, but I don't know if they also fail in the rear. The noise fades out a lot when the car is "warm".
Could it be the Shocks? or maybe something in the diff.? I think that these are the only things that can "warm up" back there (oil in the shocks and diff).

Any clue?

Thanks

No clues I'm afraid, but the rear drop links are very rare to cause any issues.

Had the same noise  twice on the wife's car (not an Omega).

The first time, same as yours, it faded off when the car warmed up.
It was nothing more than the top of rear exhaust box lighily tapping
on the the underneath of the car that cleared when everything heated
up and settled.
You say you've replaced the rear shocks. Has this altered the car's stance
so that exhaust etc.. has slightly moved in relation to the car?

The second time was a flat-headed nail stuck in the tyre tread and tack..tack..tacking
on the road.

Check the simple stuff first before imagining expensive mechanical horrors :)

Does it only sound with the car moving?
Or is it rpm related  when static?

Thanks for the replies!

I tried the handbrake, but that didn't quieten the noise.
I will look underneath the car and pay atention to the exhaust system.
