Smoke I thought....
« on: 13 July 2007, 17:18:27 »

that was coming from oil onto the manifold is not the case. Just finished putting everything back together after doing cam cover gaskets and breather system. I had smoke before I did it, coming from the drivers side manifold region. This prompted me to do the gaskets.

However when I started the car it went nuts, ran really bad for 5 minutes then seemed to clear. I still have the same smoke and it is coming from the pipe that goes from manifold to EGR. I think this is the right thing I am talking about. What is causing this and how do I stop it?

Thanks

Just started raining so not yet. After closer inspection it seems to be further back than the EGR pipe, the same area as before doing gaskets.

It could be old oil burning off, from the leak you just cured.

I had a car once that still whiffed oil after a fair few miles...

I thought that. I might just let it go a few miles and keep an eye on it. How badly and for how long should it rune really rough after cam cover gasket change? I had to switch off 3 times as it sounded so bad it was shaking in it boots big time.

ICV is in lol. I can't believe that I had no bits left over :D  It is running really quite well today, nice clean acceleration. There is still some smoke from the same area. I'm not sure if there is a kind of catchment area were the oil could have collected. Apart from that I think I've done a good job. Took me about 9 hours in total I was very careful and precise.

Just one other thing I noticed. My cams seemed very yellow in comparison to the ones in the how to. Any reason for this or is it nowt to worry about?
