Blown head gasket  2.5v6.....help
« on: 14 July 2007, 01:12:26 »

Hi there ....my 97 R reg tourer has just blown a head gasket.......misfiring......and smoking like fred dibnah's steam engine.
The plumes of white smoke out tthe exhaust told me its the head leaking into a cylinder.

Also coolant is emptying from expansion tank abot every 5 miles....!!!

A mate reckons my best option is to swap the engine out as the cost to do the heads (And i must do both) would be horrendous??

what do think to a swap out guys?.....is it an easy job to do?.......I didnt want to scrap the omega as she was a lovely comfy carand I would get next to nothing for it with a blown head...!!

Any ideas?

Wait and watch this thread.....   there are many threads already on here with this complaint....  very likely a heat exchanger problem or heater bypass valve at rear of block and not HG failure....

Where are you??

considerable white smoke from exhaust wont be caused by a HBV or oil cooler!

Although rare, sounds HG related.

Does sound like HG :(

Probably more work to change engine than is to change HG...  ...not that difficult, some bits fiddling, but will be worth going other bits when stripped....
