Black Plasticy thing on top.
« on: 18 July 2007, 14:33:10 »

Ok guys...Now.

V6, top of plenum.

I've got the ecotec plate off and removed the torx screw there under.

The black platic plate with the 4 tubes attached at the rear prises up quite easily BUT said plate
won't slide out from the front where it meets the trottle body.

Have I missed anything or is it just a bit of a stubbon git after 9 years of staying there. It just won't slide out...I don't want to break it but I suspect it needs a clean ??

Make sure the bottom of the 'black plasticy bit' is clear of the plenum, it's got a bit that 'plugs' into the plenum with a rubber seal, also it may require a bit of persuausion from the throttles if not removed for a while as there are two o rings there.

It has a bit which goes down into the plenum, - does it have an extended plenum, if not you may need to unbolt the throttle body.

Well I had another fiddle tonight based on what you guys have said and it sure ain't gonna move.
I think I'll take the trottle body off to get at the two pipes from the front...Based on what I've seen
regarding the 4 pipes at the rear, I strongly suspect they are pretty clean...but always good to aire on the
safe side I guess ?

The 2 middle ones were as clean as clean could be..the outer two gave up a little brown liquid when given a sqwert of
Carb cleaner but nothing more than that.

As stated in the Maintenance guide, the throttle body needs to come off......plus it will want a good clean to.

2.5 and early 3.0 (pre 1998) required throttle body to be removed to remove plastic bit.  No hassles, as you want to clean throttle body anyway.

post 98 3.0l, 2.6 and 3.2, this can be removed without removing throttle body, but ideally remove and clean anyway.

Will do...The trottle body has already been cleaned back to brand new, in situ BUT looks like she'll have to come off to clean the other bits...never mind..Thank you for all your advice.

Most of the dirt is on the inside of the throttles (ie. the other side of the butterfly) so taking them off to clean is required.

I could clean both sides of the Butterfly quite easily by holding the throttle open and having a good scrub with carb cleaner and a tooth brush. I used the wifes brush...hopefully she won't realise ?

You can't clean them properly without removing, trust me ;)
