reverse lights

do u need reverse lights working to pass a mot mine do not work and cant figure out how to get them to work. as have to keep gear selector in park to get car to start. :'(

No you don't need them working for an MOT. As for testing, get someone to sit in the car if need be and keep there foot on the brake while putting it in reverse. I would have thought that you only need the ignition on for the lights to work :-/

You could of course just turn the ignition on - without starting the car - & put the car in reverse!!!  :y  :y

What car? A 'proper' manual will have a simple reverse light switch whereas I think the reverse lights of an auto are switched via the selector switch. Without stating the obvious if it's a car that's been converted you'll need to do a little frigging of the wiring - black/white is the reverse lights wire.

thanks was not sure which wires was for reverse. i have had to keep auto gear selector switch tied up under car to get it to start did not want to start messing with wires and blow something so will go and try to get reverse light to work if it ever stops raining. :) :)

I'm glad others do the same thing!  I check mine when a bus stops behing me in traffic... I'm sure they think i'm a looney when i go through all my rear lights like that.  ;D

Just got back from having my car MOT'd (it passed!  :y) and I asked about reverse lights. Reverse lights are not MOTable.
