Fuel rail connector
« on: 01 August 2007, 23:50:57 »

Silly little problem..

was trying to remove my fuel rail this evening but had problems to disconnect the electrical connector at the back.  As far as I can see it is attached  to (or part of?) a plastic bracket that clips on to the engine lifting point.  On the top of the same bracket there are a pair of smaller cables.   Try as I might in the gathering gloom I couldn't disconnect the connector from the plastic bracket.   The other half of the electrical connector came off no problem.

I don't remember this problem with my 2.5 (this is 3L).

In Ronnies pic here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1181719948/0#0 (third one down)the plastic bracket doesn't appear at all.

So is the plastic bracket supposed to come out with the connector, and if so presumably the two other cables need removing from it?

I'm sure I'm being dim and hopefully all will become clear in the light of day,   but appreciate advice in the meantime from anyone familiar with this.

Cheers

Ian

Its rare the for the palstic bracket to still be in place, its a sure sign that nobody has been down that part of the engine yet!

To disconnect the connector theere is a plastic tag (quite big) that lifts up and then you can seperate the two halves, there is quite a bit of friction though as the connector has a rubber weatehr seal on it.

Ahh, looks familiar. I was there last night changing my crank sensor.

Regarding the plastic bracket it stays with the engine side of the connectors rather than the loom side, if that makes sense, so to remove the fuel rail you need to take the bracket with it and separate the 2 connectors on it. (other one is crank sensor as I discovered).

Ah ok - that makes sense Kevin.  I didn't try to remove the other two cables/connectors.

Actually the plastic bracket was off the engine lift point so I think there has been some fidlling down there.   It sounds from what Mark said and Ronnies pic that the bracket does disconnect from the connector, but if I can remove the crank sensor wiring may just be easiest to remove connector and bracket together.

I was also amused to discover a spare set of HT leads down there!  I assume the originals that had been disconnected but not removed for some reason.    They seem to go through a plastic sheath somewhere around the back/below the level of the fuel rail.
