Ok I have a 2001 catera, it uses the same v6 3.0 omegas have, recently I cleaned the exhaust ports and then changed my valve cover gaskets woot! thanks for the help on that one =).

Ok also i changed the spark plugs and put it all back together, thing is now when I start the car it idles up then goes right down to about 300rpm and until its warm will not stay running. Once the car is warm and I can actually move, it drives fine but just idles very low.

here are 2 hoses that i don't know where they go, i have no idea i don't remember them







This may be part of my idle problem if not, any idea?

They certainly wont be helping the idle fault!

The large one I uspect is the auto gearbox breather.....it should be at the rear of teh engine and does not connect to anything. It should however be folded so the opening points down to stop dirt and rain getting in.

The other connection is a vaccum one, It should connect to the brake servo pipe which runs just above where its currently located, it plugs onto a branch that sticks out of the one way valve assembly in the servo pipe......hopefuly the connection hasn't been snapped off.

Yes, I agree. The large one is the autobox breather pipe and as Martk quite rightly says, should be bent to fold back down WITHOUT CREASING IT so it can still breathe.

The small vacuum connector should indeed be connected to the servo pip, which is the large black pipe with an elbow that attaches to the right of the plenum by that 19mm nut you can see.  It should comfortably reach WITHOUT stretching it. By not being connected, this would explain the rough running.

NOTE: There should be a black dust cap on that shrader valve on the aircon pipe on the right.

I suspect you may have put it where it is now to get it out the way. It should comfortably reach the otherside WITHOUT stretching it. By not being connected, this would explain the rough running.

This is a left hand drive car so the brake servo is on the same side as the plenum connection

Yes, its important to remember that the dust cap contains a rubber seal which is part of the aircon gas seal...

Yes I realised after I originally typed that, so I changed it. I think you must have beaten me to my editing!

thank you guys ill make sure and see what i can do to get it connected the right way, I appreciate it and will update on what i find =)

OK I found out that the valve that the hose connected to had the end broke off  . So I went and bought a new one and connected it all back. Now though the engine still runs rough but only at idle and until it warms up. In the morning when i start the car i have to let it idle for like 5 minutes before it will be able to generate enough power to move, if i push the throttle while its running rough it wont do anything or just stall.

After a few days the problem went away, but at that point I already had a computer code scanner on its way. When I got it I hooked it up and erased my codes thinking all was fine again. Well immediatly the car went back to running rough after clearing codes and the engine light is back on with the code saying i have multiple random misfires, which for me in the U.S is P0300.
Bah!!

Anyways once the car warms up it idles around 400-500rpms, and I can drive off just fine.
As soon as it cools down its back to rough idle and waiting for engine to warm up again before i can move.
beginning to not like this so much
