I badly bent my Mk1 Lotus Cortina rallying in the Forest of Dean ... halfshaft snapped in a corner and spun me out .. wrapped it around a tree .. literally !! Full impact at around 60 mph taken by pasenger door !! ... total write off .. the car made a banana look like a straight edge.

Replaced that with the Mk2 but it never ever handled as well as the Mk1 and I couldn't afford to bend another so had to stop being a hooligan rallying, missed it badly for several years, then got the MGB and started to have fun again .. until SWMBO announced the impending arrival of sprog #1 ... had to grow up and get sensible .. :(

Ford Cortinas, I grew up with my father owning several over the years, I even had a few myself.
Ford Cortina will always have a place in my heart

On the way out to Calais for our holidays we came across some guys on the "Cortinas to Cortina" rally. Had a good look over their motors whilst waiting for the ferry. There was at least one of each variant right up to a tidy Mk5 which I followed into Dover.

Favourite was a lovely white Mk II Crayford GT convertible  :-*
