Coolant Flush
« on: 06 August 2007, 18:43:03 »

I have been hunting through the OFF Archives to try and find the thread I read a while ago about Flushing the Coolant System to hopefully clean out my radiator..

I thought about taking the rad off then putting in some de-scaler, then apparently the car may run cooler. I am a little worried that some of the chemicals in these de scalers will eat away at the inside of the rad..... :-?

Then thought i had read about something like the Forte de greaser that was good to clean out the system when the oil cooler had leaked....

But, I can't find the thread so any input please Guys..... :y

So what did you do different then?

NOT A LOT REALLY, INSTRUCTIONS SAY RUN AT TICKOVER FOR TWENTY MINS, I RAN AT 2000rpm for half an hour alternately turning the heater control from cold to hot avery 5 mins to clear the hbv then left it ticking over for 25 mins,Switched off let it cool for an hour then drove it  for 12 to 15 miles just to make sure it had got around the whole system, then drained and refilledd the cooling system ran for ten moins drained again then refilled with correct coolant, and it a hell of a lot better than it was before!!

The stuff they use after a oil cooler failure is 'Traffic film remover' because its cheap and a good degreaser. Not quite what you are after, stick to Forte, good stuff ;)

You must be talking about Mark then!  he's a good lad...  :)

PS: Who stocks the stuff?  I looked into my local motor spares and that had Wynes only, no Forte.  What about Halfrauds?
