code 37 and 38 on 2.0 16v Omega
« on: 18 August 2007, 00:33:27 »

Hello,
I recently bought here in Rome a 1994 Opel Omega 2.0 16v, the one with the X20XEV Ecotec engine. It also was fitted with an LPG gas fuel system, so it runs both on petrol as well as LPG gas.
The orange engine management light started lighting up every now end then some time ago and now it's always on.  I performed the paper clip test described on this forum and two fault codes showed up,

code 37 Check light (fault code lamp) Voltage low
code 38 Oxygen sensor circuit Voltage high

what do they actually mean? and how should I interpretate them? How can I solve the problem?

It also gives me idleing problems and between 2500 and 3500 rpms it's not smooth at all. It also has start up problems whith a cold engine -- it takes about 5 to 15 tries before it actually decides to start up. I cleaned up the Idle control valve and it did help somewhat but didn't really solve the problem.

I hope someone can help me with these questions.
Thank you!
Filippo from Rome

Hi there

When you first fire up the engine does the engine management light come on then go out, I think code37 is for this light could be some one has removed the bulb.

Code 38 I think is for the lambda sensor which screws into the cat/downpipe

When you cleaned the Idle Control valve did you clean the breather pipes, another thing to check is whether the accelerator cable is slack or tight.

May also be worth checking the small drilling on the side of the throttlebody as this could be blocked.

Also check for leaks in the air intake pipe which runs from the  air box top the throttle body.

Just a few things to check.
