break! My alternator has gone FUBAR!
« on: 19 August 2007, 18:37:00 »

We went out for a good old sunday blat in the MV6.
Whilst cruising in traffic at about 40 clicks I noticed the battery light come on... then off... then on! I best pull up, as I did the PAS went along with the temp nearing 100!  :o

Anyways, we get out and my missus says "it's broke"  ::)
It looks like the bearings in the alternator have collapsed? Is there a way how I could fix this cheap?
Or chould I be off to the scrapper for a 120amp + alternator?

Easy enough to change the bearings on them with a bearing puller.......and they are a standard off the shelf bearing.

Thanks guys!

I think I'll go to Bosch in the morning (5 min walk) and see about bearings, looks like it only needs 2?

I found this (which made me go and take it off now!)
http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/electrical/boschaltrepair.htm

Before now normally I would just bin it and grab another - this way it's prob going to cost me a £10nr!

sassanach: I'll see what happens and post back. Thanks

There's an electrical factors the same distance away, should I go there instead?
