Which Engine for project Beast?!?
« on: 24 August 2007, 17:17:07 »

Hi,

When my house sells (nov-dec hopefully) , i am going to buy another omega and strip it down and start a fresh with it. Its going to be called project Beast!I really want a big power engine but want to stick with a vauxhall engine.

What engine do you think would work well in an omega?

I am open to any type of displacement but would prefer a v6,v8,v10 or v12 , maybe turbo'd

No contest for me. Put a GM V8 in it and build the mythical Omega V8.

Tuning the V6 engines has too many snags, a turbocharged 4 pot wouldn't really cut it.

Got to be done.

 8-)

What is the spec of it? , any websites i can have a look at it?

I fodgot to mention , i am going for a facelift car , and going to make it lighter by replacing parts with lighter ones.

The end result for me will be a car that has amazing interior , amazing exterior with amazing performance and handling!

5.7 V8 Monaro engine, won't be cheap but will scare everything in sight.  :y

Failing that a BMW 4ltr V8 out of the 5 series?

If you want big BHP you are best off slotting in a C20LET or the Z20LET. Turbo cars are so much easier to tune. I think the turbo will foul the engine mount so you would prob have to move it (engine mount), build a 3" straight through exhaust, fit LSD and have some serious fun  :P

Hi,

I was considering that actually but was a bit worried about with it only being a 4 pot it would struggle with the weight.

Am i right in saying 300 Ibft of torque on a 4 pot wouldnt feel the same as 300 Ibft or torque on a v6 or v8 due to how it spits the torque out?

Wouldnt the z20let be thrashy and low on torque low down due to turbo lag?

I would much much prefer to take the v6 out and go to town on it and spend alot making it reliable and very powerful, just dont know if the v6 would take alot of power and be day to day reliable.

I see. I know what your saying about the 4 pot but I think it would be ok, your only going to get turbo lag until you know how to drive a turbo car  ;) or if you have a mahoosive turbo - you'll get lag no matter what.

Pushing the V6 to any decent power will cost you dearly ie sale of vital organs on ebay etc...

I have a superchips ecu and twin de-cats and it's still not that fast.

Hi,

Yeah , ive driven quite a few turbo cars (astra gte c20let turbo) , and always found them to be very fast but bad for lag.

If i could strip the v6 and get better pistons, cams, etc and maybe supercharge it or turbo it then i would prefer that but if it would cost me a massive amount of money then i would prefer a new and different engine. I just dont know if the v6 would be reliable running say 300-400 bhp via a turbo or supercharger?

What ever engine you put in it can you make sure you do photos and a nice detailed list because im saving for the same thing. At the moment i've decided on http://www.strokerengine.com/BBC620.html as i want to bulid a street legal drag car. Ive been collecting info on parts and suppliers for the last 2 years but just need the money so if i can help with any ideas on parts and where to get them just let me know.

Agree with Kevin above...Beast need v6 or v8 engines.

The v6 in the 3.0 omega wont take much more - V8 it :) ;)
