Damn Autobox!!
« on: 31 August 2007, 11:47:18 »

Hi,

I posted a while back about the car having a leak from the bellhousing of the box, I managed to source a used AR35 from a breakers yard and had this fitted by a local garage for 136 pounds, but now the damn second one is leaking from the same place!!

Anybody have any ideas what this could be?
I have found out that there is a seal in the bellhousing that seals around the torque converter, as the one in the old box is certainly stuffed so I am thinking the one in the box I have sourced has gone as well?
I was thinking that during the storage and trasportation of the box that the torque converter has been left init and the box left lying horizontal and this has dameged it?

Cheers Karl

Are you sure it's ATF?

Yeah I'm fairly sure as its quite a bright red colour, I thought it could be power steering fluid but the level in the reseviour is staying the same and their is a lot of oil dripping out.

I am starting to get fed up with this car now, I just want to get fixed once and for all!  :'(

i take it you just changed the box, and the torque converter was the original?

Could be the torque converter.....

There was a torque converter supplied with the box I got. The garage supposedly fitted the box and the torque converter and I actually trust this garage.

I still think the seal at the fron end is the most likely culprit TBH.
