I am getting an intermittent EML, code 73, air flow meter. I am reluctant to part with any more hard-earned cash and I believe these little burgers are about £280. Is there anything I can do to service the existing MAF or are they usually just a replacement.

Cheers. I am also getting a 135-----'Check engine' lamp (fault code lamp)---Low voltage. So, is the MAF at fault, or just the EML?

It'd be worth checking for any air leaks as well before condemning the sensor. Any induction leak downstream of the sensor (vac pipe / breather disconnected, plenum seal?) will cause its' reading to be called into question by the ECU.

And also check the electrical connector pins on it for corrosion.

     I too had this problem with the air flow meter, car would cut out for no reason and at speed, engine ran hot but not to boil, fault code pointed to meter.
  Checked all vac pipes for splits ,none and plenty of water in her, rad cap fine.
  Vauxhall quoted, wait for it   £320.00 !!! just for the part, had at look on ebay found a new one by Bosch though a car factor by the name of PARTSDOME 28, just put this name in their shops box NOW their price £68.50 + postage  !!!!! , JUST CHECK THE PART NUMBER ON THE OLD UNIT IS THE THE SAME AS THE NEW ON, their are two available for the 2.5 v6 and the 3 lite will not fit.

before blowing £300 on new maf, worth getting indie to do a live data ?

I've cleaned up the electrical connections and so far...so good
