NO Check strap mechanism
« on: 31 August 2007, 15:58:43 »

Just started to do drivers side check strap bush and plate and there is no mechanism on this side. The actual strap is there but not connected to anything. Searched around in the bottom of the door and it ain't there.

Why would someone completely remove the mechanism and leave a strap to do nothing? Any idea how much these are to replace? It would be nice for my door to stay open, instead of using my foot.  >:(

Many thanks to Philayl for the replacement check strap mechanism. However, upon fitting I discovered that some eejit has ripped the last one out. They have taken out the bottom screw and then just yanked at it. So now the hole where the strap comes through and the top screw hole have become one  >:( It was completely mangled.

Managed to straighten it out enough to get the new one in. It is only secured on the bottom screw at the moment. I am hoping that the reinforcement plate that I have on back order will be sufficient to secure the top.

I wish the previous owner had been a member here :D
