Hi all,

Fitted the stalk last night, was really easy (even for a mechanical muppet like me), phoned the garage and they can't help until sometime next week

Not 100% sure they have Tech2 or not, does it have to be Tech2 or do other programs do it too?

Also, is there anyone near Glasgow that can do it?   (for a donation of corse)

3rd option would be to go to Vauxhall main dealer (they always ask for £50 just to look at it) how would I talk them into it?

Well done on fitting the stalk.    Did you check to see if there are brake and/or clutch switches also fitted or have you done them as well??

It needs a real tech2, I think, rather than a cheapo or generic that some garages have.

A VX dealer will be able to assist, most seem to charge circa £45 or so for the 30 mins work it needs.  Some peeps have sweet talked the mechanics so that its done during their lunch hour and a reduced cash equivelant is donated to a favourite beer supplier charity.

Ok, here's where I prove I'm a muppet.

I followed the details on the thread below " Fitting Cruise (Facelift Only) ", I have a 2.6 CD Auto (51 plate)

From what I read all I had to do was buy the stalk (got it from LMFVauxhall as the stock it) fit it and get nice mechanic to Tech2 it.

Am I missing anything out?

If I remember previous posts correctly, it seems a fair proportion of facelift cars (perhaps all) left the factory with all the required switches prefitted thus only requiring a stalk to be added then the whole thing tech2'd.

To me, if a big concern such as GM were able to avoid fitting umpty thousand switches at 57 pence each or whatever plus staff hours in fitting them they would do so.  That would pay for something else within the corporate empire or add to profits.

I would suggest taking the cover off around the pedals (30 second job with twist fastenings) then having a look to ensure a 4 pin brake switch and/or clutch switch is already there.  Saves a spotty yoof doing the same thing at the dealership with resultant   ....

If its a manual, you MAY need a clutch switch as well. Some have them, some dont.  About a tenner.

It needs to be a real Tech2, with a valid TIS2000 subscription.  Some independents have the Tech2, but not the TIS.

It's an automatic. And your not a muppet, just needs Tech2'd.

In my opinion, the cheapest you are likely to get it done by a garage is £30 - £40. If Vx dealer wants £50 then that's still only £20 over maximum and not that much for such a great mod!

I phoned around the Vx dealers in Cornwall and Devon and wasn't quoted that much so it is worth giving them a call and I'm sure they are much more generous up your way.

We had a bit of a queer going on with our VX service guys at Ryedale Garages.

Asked friendly parts guy and he found a cruise stalk, said they would have a go at fitting while it was in for service.

Got back, collected car and said they hadn't been 'able' to do it. Apparently VX get shirty about fitting mods afterwards, obvious really. Explained safety etc. So 6 months down the line, I was still pondering about it and reading people had still done the mod. Found a cruise stalk at local breakers, 5 squid   Fitted it, and bingo! It works first go  

Looks like the boys at VX had enabled it, given us the 'disclaimer' and not gone ahead! Rather a bit of a backhander for us to work out for ourselves   Result!
