Squeek at high Revs
« on: 12 September 2007, 22:41:32 »

Hi chaps just back from my hols and driving back from the airport my omega had a squeek when i gunned it only at high revs as in above 5k and i did notice it had a little squeek before i went on my hols but it is alot louder i will have a look tomorrow to see if i can track it down.

What could be the main thing to squeek at high revs ?

Aux Belt ? but i think it would squeek just when reving if it was loose.

Cambelt Tensoners ? I really hope not anyway of finding out if it is them?

Alternator, PAS Pump, AirCon Pump ?

Its Not The Water Pump It was replaced 6000 miles ago

You need to isolate whether its road speed or engine speed related.

Noise still there when stationary and engine reved or noise there when travelling at 70 or so with engine in neutral and revs at idle?  (stay safe, of course....)

Once you suss this, please post back.

Well Just reved the hell out of her parked up out the front, I dont know what the revs were as my head was under the bonnet but i think they were high as i did not dare go any higher but i could not hear her squeek, May be she only squeeks when under load.

Just been out for a bash on the motorway to test the Cruise Control which is fine and to see if i can pin point the squeek

it happens at 4.5k to 5k in any gear ok above and below  :-?

Wonder if its something loose that is vibrating at those revs  :-/

Oh i forgot to also say if the revs are sat at say 4.5 with no accelaration it does not sqweek only when flooring it to get the revs up quickly it does it, the squeek sounds like brearings but i guess it would squeek at any RMP if it was.

my worry is its the cambelt tensoners squeeking under load but i am a paronoid kind of person and think the worst.

Guess the best next cheapest step is the AUX belt I guess

Take the aux belt off and run engine for a moment to prove...  try putting chalk on the belt too, to test for slip noise...
