No heat in cabin- what should I check first?

Hi

I'm getting no heat in the cabin - only noticed it yesterday when it got cold in the evening.  The auto electronic controls seem to work OK, but it just blows more (cold) air when I turn the temp up.

Is the 1st thing to try to backflush the heater matrix, or should I check the fabled 'heater bypass valve' that I've read about (not entirely sure what that does when it's working, let alone when it goes wrong).  

I know I should probably attack both routes, but really would appreciate a steer as I don't have a lot of spare time at the mo as I'm just about to move house; so if I can keep it down to one job instead of two that would be great.

Climate reset and place on Hi, see what happens. Reset is done by holding Off and Auto at the same time for 5secs.
I assume it is climate control :-/

i would possibly look at the HBV, this controls the hot/cold into the car, is the vac hose still on it? I believe there is a diaphram that deals with the hot/cold control, has this been damaged.

The HBV (heater bypass valve) is located in the engine bay right at the back, follow the rocker cover right to the bulkhead and you may see it there, it will have 3 hoses all about 1 inch diameter and a small vac hose on it as well

Many thanks - I'll look at the HBV, but is there an easy way to know if it's knackd (assuming all the hoses seem to be connected)?

If HBV leaks its knackered.

firstly, check the hose going to hbv is hot.

secondly, set temp to hi - does hose from hbv to baulkhead get hot?
