Spare Key
« on: 16 September 2007, 17:40:05 »

Hi
This is for 1998 2.5V6 Elite.
Have one key incl 2 button fob.

No spare, but have 2 button fob (no blade) which locks/unlocks car.

How do i go about getting suitable key to fit spare fob.
Is the transponder in fob part or blade part?

I have Car Pass

You can buy a blank blade and the horse shoe (U shaped plastic it clips into) as one from ebay (Think I got mine from an eBayer called Cryptokeys), the transponders sometimes pop up on ebay as well, last time they were £6 each.

Get it all programmed by TheBoy or MarksDTM and your in business!

I have read your post but I am a little unsure what your after?
I bought a Key Fob off flea-bay that looked the same as the one that opened my car thinking it was right, when I went to "The Not Wales Meet" turned out to be the wrong one. So if you have a look on the opposite side to the buttons of the key fob, in the bottom left corner there should be the type name... not easy to see but mine began with "M".... The chip for your Immobilizer is in the Key Fob.

As already said TB and Mark can program the fob with there Tech2. :y

As you already have the fob part of the key and it opens the car then it must already be programmed, the key will need to be cut and the imobiliser chip programmed.

Tip: If you buy the blade off ebay and take it to a high street key cutter they usually cut them for free because as it's not a blade bought from them they won't guarantee it!

As Loo knee points out, what you have to watch is that there are different types of fob 'Megamos' and 'Delphi', there's also two button and three button variants.

I couldn't think of the name for the life of me ::)

And Bosch ;)

Prefaclifts are generally Megamos.

But, sounds like your remote fob is working, so you just need the horseshoe with blade, and the transponder chip.  The transponder will have to be programmed to the car with a Tech2, which will require carpass.  Either Marks_DTM or I can do this cheaper than most dealers - see http://theboy.omegaowners.com - I'm in Brackley on the Northants/Oxon/Bucks border, M_DTM is in Nottingham.

Spare remote fob working ok.  Still not clear about transponder chip.  Is it with the blade or the fob? - one reply says its with the fob.  Can get horseshoe with blade off ebay.  Understand transponder chip needs to be programmed to car prior to getting key laser cut - to do with decryption & re-encryption. Is that correct?
Can cheapo Tech2 reprogram transponder chip? (using TIS2000 software)?
If not will be in contact 4 u to reprogram chip.
Cost?

Confirmed, transponder is NOT part of fob.  Sometimes it comes when you buy the horseshoe, sometimes seperate.  If your horseshoe does not have one, buy an Omega key from ebay.

It will need programming, and no, cheapo Tech2 can't do it.
