Electric seats won't advance
« on: 17 September 2007, 22:05:40 »

Coming back from Spain, we decided to do a long one-day drive - this meant sharing the driving. When we decided to swap drivers, as my partner is not as tall as me, we tried to adjust the drivers seat for her - it advanced half way then stopped. No matter what we did it wouldn't go any further. This was strange because only the day before I'd wound it all the way forwards to look for something we'd lost.
Any ideas what could be causing this? (I've checked for any obvious blockages such as stuff that's fallen into the mechanism)

if they are electric, try winding fully with the winding handle in the toolkit...

Off to England in a minute, will have a closer look for coins (Euro, Sterling or whatever) there...

I've not used the manual winder yet (the old car doesn't have electric seats), I guess it inserts directly into the front of the electric motor?

Cheers, Ian

Any chance of some more info about this mystical tool??? I am not fortunate enough to have the tool kit, but I have had the same problem for over 12 months. Nothing jamming the mechanism, I just get about 20mm of movement.

:) Hi had the exact same prob with my elec seat, I raisd the seat to it`s max hight so i could see a bit better and after much searching (you nearly have to be a contortionist) found a ten pence piece on it`s end in the runner, it must have fallen out of my pocket at some point, I extracted it with a pair of thin nosed pliers and now my seat works like a treat. So it`s always worth a good look around.

I don't think that my problem is mechanical. The motor simply switches off at a certain point - no sudden stop as if there is something jamming the mechanism.
