Hello everyone, i have a 98 catera 3.0 or MV6 to you all it has an automatic transmission with a minor problem, Ok just today the transmission light turned on when I was on the highway it has come on one other time since i had the car and it happens in third gear i think because the car is going 80mph and accelerating but it always goes away after restarted and runs very well  The car runs super and the transmission shifts seem fine could it be Low fluid?, bad fluid? the Transmission ECM Module? or any other ideas? Bad connection? Dirty connection? anything?  Car has 115k but doesnt drive like it. I just don't know what to do, dont really want to spend 900+ in the end on a new /rebuilt transmission especially if i don't need one which every place will tell me i do so they can get my money  My first step so far is to check fluid level and add a high performance transmission additive made by Lucas to seal anything, free any sticky valves, and recondition current fluid.  Is this a common problem? any common easy fixes?  The transmission itself seems very durable it just may be electronics but im not sure.  Any Input is greatly appreciated  :)I saw the transmission info and articles on the site and there great

Hmm....check the fluid level (info available in the maintenance section) and consider a fluid change to before you add an additive.

The only real known failure on the 4L30E box is the front thrust washer disintegrating, pop the small front sump off (needs to be done to change the fluid anyway) and have a look for the remains of a thrust washer. If you find one, fixing it is not to difficult and costly (we have a maintenance guide for this to) and being in the states, you get gearbox parts at good prices to.

It's going to be worth doing a service on the box as it probably hasn't been done since manufacture...
