Elite centre armrest
« on: 27 September 2007, 18:05:16 »

I think something is missing on mine (98 mini facelift).   Even so seems pretty weird.

The cover hinges forwards and simultaneously rotates into one's 6 pack beer gut for some reason.
Underneath there is a hole which goes down into the bowels of the car - I am sure there should be some insert that fits into here.

Can anyone enlighten me?
- what is supposed to be under the cover?
- what is the articulated cover all about?

Cheers!

Ian

Weird.....my Elite is a '98 but not sure about mini facelift. Mine hinges to the rear and doesn't rotate. I'm sure someone on here will get to the bottom of it... :y

99 Mini-facelift here  ...

Hinges at rear and has an "insert" in the unit to hold all the bits and pieces ... no bowels visible (thank god) !!  :)

Just done a bit of research .. there were 2 centre consol boxes .. I'll do some pics and edit them in ... one was for cars fitted with a telephone handset there !!  perhaps you have one of them ??

If you let me have the last 8 digits of your VIN ( letter then 7 numbers) I should be able to check for you

Mine is late 98.   No sign of a phone or electrics down there.

I'll dig out my VIN number when home.   My Elite one looks like the pic on the right.

My 98 CDX estate has a much more conventional setup - hinges at the back and reveals a cubby box.

right hand picture is described as :

SEAT, TELEPHONE CONSOLE, RHD, BLACK (GM DRIVE TRIM CODES XXMG, XXMC, XXME, XXLG)

and the VIN number doesn't help :( it is the trim code number apparently

Yes it was for a "car phone handset", with a boot mounted "tranceiver". It cost alot of money as a GM fitted extra, scrap yards or dismantlers best place for standard bits.   :y

Thanks all.  I don't really want a phone in there.

Do you think I can retrofit the standard lid/insert if I can find one (its brown unfortunately)?  Looked likely from a quick look.

Cheers,

Ian
