Help....The subject says it all. Been trying to sort a egr problem with my mega. Usual probs, lumpy running on start up. Not reving then all of a sudden clears.

Had fault read by local dealer code showing egr. Takes egr off and cleaned with Mr Muscle. Egr back on motor and engine revs and starts o.k.

After a run of about 5 miles engine warmed up fault light comes on along with check auto gearbox. Stopped car switched off then on engine and every thing o.k.

Then engine looses power, and car with spanner comes on. Take Egr off again and this time make a blanking plate. Put Egr back on with new plate. Car starts o.k. from cold with no hunting but after 2 mins auto gearbox check comes on. :'( :'(

Now can some of the more knowledgeable ones explain why this could be? One of my thoughts is that fuel is getting past the injectors causing a fuelling problem. If I set off straight away, after starting the engine, the check light does not come on.


Would be interested on others thoughts.

Thanks for the PM James. I should have said my motor is a 2.2 petrol. I thought the Throttle Posistion Sensor or the tick over was done by tech2.

Could be a failing crank sensor too perhaps?

Any trouble codes stored?

Not when the dealer did the reading. Just showing egr.

Er... I don't think a DBW would have a seperate TPS...

Ah, didn't see 2.2.

There's only one connector on the throttle with FBW and if that's disconnected you'll be going nowhere. Worth giving it a wiggle though.

I will give it a wiggle, have had the connector come loose before but you know what it is like when you get blinkered in trying to chase/cure a fault. I think the egr prob is nailed and will try to get the codes read again in the near future.

Will have a look to see if the throttle butterfly is returning properly and also if the throttle body is clean inside.

I have a spare EGR valve in the garage that you are welcome to try but its from a 2.5 Vectra and the electrical connector is at the opposite angle required for a 3.0 Meega.  May work OK for a 2.2 though.   :y

My thoughts to TB!

By the way, Mr muscle is not good at cleaning soot etc out, paint stripper is the answer.

You also need to be careful with blanking the EGR on later cars as it can be detected by the MAF....it might be this thats causing the further problem.
