Exhaust query
« on: 28 September 2007, 16:00:57 »

I will be needing a replacement exhaust at some point and have been looking at some on Ebay. Some of them say they are for cars 1994-1999, does this mean they changed when facelifts came along or when the new engines came along or are they all the same really?!
Cheers  :y

The backbox mounts changed on the facelift.

Thanks for the reply - shame they're all pre-facelift that  I find. I have attached a picture of what my exhaust looks like  :o
Where it's gone, do I just need the rear section? Is this part alone interchangable with pre facelifts? No wonder it's so loud  :-[

Looks like the inner pipe is knackered as well, so it will be mid and aft sections :(

Seriously, even if the mid sections look o.k., by the time you have managed to clean them up you'll be cursing.  Even worse, if you do manage to replace the back box alone the mids will probably fail soon after and you'll be left with the problem of trying to seperate a good rear box from the mid sections.

Replace the lot is my advice:  get a TC card as well then VX parts will probably cost you the same as aftermarket and they are a lot better

This is getting annoying! - not even kwik fit can do an exhaust for me! They'll only quote for cars up to 1999 on 2.5 V6 will my car have the same exhaust as a 2.6?!

Is this your system? Should get middle and rear sections for around £90-£100. Then you find a fitter to bribe  ;)

Quite honestly, don't even bother with fast fit - not worth it

Rough prices for yours from VX are:

centre pipe LH retail £110  Trade club £69
centre pipe RH retail £112  TC £71
rear box  £107, TC 65

budget for another tenner for various clamps etc

Dead easy to do yourself: the only thing to be really careful about is the centre section to front pipe bolts.  Suggest these get a couple of days soaking in plus gas to free up then treat with care.  They can break

all prices plus VAT

Just replaced mine yesterday £164 for the mid and rear. The joint at the front pipe is a bit of a bugger though.

Haven't really got it in me to do it myself - VX want £380 to do it  :o
So may have to go trade and find someone else to fit it. It seems talking to someone at an exhaust place that the main pattern suppliers don't make them for Omegas after 1999 which I find odd?

I'd go genuine GM parts if i were you.  I'd never put non-GM exhaust parts on my pride and joy...

I just replaced the centre boxes and back box on TC and fitted them myself, It only took a few hours.
