Firstly you will need to find out why there are cracks in the header tank. Secondly the header tanks don't just crack for no reason. Thirdly have you looked in 'Items for sale or Wanted' section of the forum? Members usually advertise that they are breaking omega's there.

Hello Vauxhallomega1, Senior Member !.
1st) It's cracked because it's 10 years old and 130,000 miles, fatigue cracks by the look of them. 2rd) It's because of the constant expassion and contraction, 3rd) The "Car parts, bits For Sale& Wanted" section does not currently have one for sale.
Has someone upset your day ?

Whoa  :o

Ok, although not that common, it's not unheard of for a header tank to crack. The first thing to do I guess would be to put another header tank on there, and see what happens.

Once you've done that, though, do check that the cooling system is OK and not over pressuring.

You may be pleased to know a new tank is only £26 from vauxhall dealers direct, so second hand ones can sometimes be a false economy :y

No, not yet anyway lol. No my car is 12 years old and the same header tank plus mine is 148,000 miles  [smiley=wink.gif]just thought there may have been a problem in the not so long past that the cooling system may have had a problem that was all. There is a member that is breaking a 1997 cdx Omega, Bumbles, if you PM them they will let you know.

Sorry Vauxhallomega1, didn't mean to be a pain but this is just one of a number of 'er challenges over recent times.
The plastic around the screw neck is very - weathered, travelled 200miles on one trip last week lost about a half a cup full, travelled 60 miles the following day lost a cup full, had the cam belt changed during the week no sign of a leak in area's normally hidden, only sign is around the top of the header, dry white liquid stains. Thanks for the info on price, I doubt they are cheaper on my TC, but still £30 is not bad.
Once again many thanks for all your advise.

Have a try with a new cap first, its not uncommon for them to leak and its cheaper than a new tank :y

A new bottle is cheap enough not to worry about 2nd hand ones.  There are a few different types, so make sure the dealer gets you right one.

The cap, as said, can make it look like bottle has cracked (common to see 'stress' marks around where thread goes in, but are still water tight), so don't overlook this :)
